Carb withdrawl
My body is going through mild carb withdrawal. In the afternoon I have cravings for M&Ms or something similarly sugary. Mild headache to go along with it.
Last week I had chicken and pasta for lunch and two oranges almost every day and the same thing for dinner minus the oranges. Breakfast was a latte, half a dozen egg whites (Egg Starts) and a small slice of coffee cake.
This week breakfast is exactly the same, but the coffee cake will be cut out after tomorrow (when I run out), but lunch is chicken and vegetables. Afternoon snack around 3pm of an orange and handful of macadamia nuts. Monday dinner was leftover enchilada casserole made with corn tortillas, but since then dinner has been lean ground beef, sauted spinach and some percorino romano shaved on top. There is salt, garlic, basil and olive oil that goes into the prep so it isn’t as hard core as it sounds. I appreciated the ground beef instead of steak today after work, school and then working out. I was too tired to cut, and my nice little meal was easy to warm up evenly and then shovel into my gullet.
A very cool thing about my diet change so far is that I am not hungry. I think the key is the macadamia nuts in the afternoon. Last week, I would be starving by the time I got home around 7:30pm. This week, no problem.
I have read that carbs hold water, and that seems to be true. After playing racketball for an hour Saturday, I weighed in at 188.0lbs, which was about 2lbs of fluid loss. I weighed in today at 186.4lbs. I drink plenty of water throughout the day, so I have to give credit to those missing carbs for the quit weight loss. This of course is not uncommon, “water weight is lost the first two weeks of a new diet” is the rule of thumb. This is the first time that I have ever put together that the carbs were the cause. If I get unlazy for a few minutes, I might try to figure out the physiological cause.
