Back in the Pool

Yesterday was my first day back in the water after nine months. After swimming 1,000 meters, or about 30% or a normal master’s workout, I left the pool both exhausted and dehydrated. My goal is to get back into shape this summer, when I have time to workout several nights a week as well as weekends, and try to maintain that through the fall when I will only have time to workout weekends.

Where did I swim yesterday? Lifetime Fitness in Flower Mound. Lifetime was nice, but yesterday it was crowded. It was so busy they couldn’t keep up with providing towels. The indoor lap pool was also closed yesterday and the outdoor lap area, which is attached to the main pool, is not reserved for lap swimmers. Although the view outside was very nice, you had jackasses standing in the lap lanes, kids climbing over the lane lines, a cross current pushing you across the lanes and kids doing cannon balls next to the lap lanes. This won’t normally be a problem, as the indoor pool should be open for lap swim and I was only there during prime time because I wanted to make sure there would be someone available to sign me up. First thing in the morning on weekends and right after work, there should be a decrease in cannon ballers and lane rope jumpers.
