Uncle Julio’s in Grapevine

Uncle Julio’s opened in the last six month in the space that used to be Movies 8 and is now the most happening place in Grapevine.

Now, let me describe happening in Grapevine. All the restaurants are busy in Grapevine, but no matter what the venue, you can count on a good crowd of people in cut-offs, high tops with no socks and a white t-shirt with stains. The best dressed people are always the high schoolers. So the most happening place in Grapevine was full of people willing to wait over an hour for decent tex-mex and they were actually wearing clothes WITHOUT holes or stains! It was amazing.

Now, Uncle Julio’s is a favorite of mine from Dallas, but the Grapevine venue is different. First the Dallas venue is very gay, being located in the Oak Lawn area where as Grapevine is very suburban. On a good day, Dallas has SMU kids and Grapevine has well dressed teens. I don’t go to either for the crowd.

The big difference between the venues is the frozen margarita’s. Frozen margarita’s are notorious for being weak, but the Dallas frozen margarita was quite potent, and two was more than enough for a good buzz and three would prevent driving. The Grapevine margaritas might have alcohol in them, but I am not quite sure. Maybe… but maybe they are from 7-11. The Dallas margaritas are rumored to have Everclear added to the mix, which management has denied and the staff has confirmed. Who to believe with this new compelling evidence?

As for the food, the food is good Tex-Mex. The quality of the chicken and steak is a step above most other Tex-Mex places I have been, but really I go for the margaritas.

If I go for the margaritas, and Grapevine pours weak margaritas, why go? I am not interested in the nicely dressed children waiting out front after their parents dropped them off.
