Ramspeck 2006 Napa Valley Pinot Noir
First, two things about Pinot Noir.
I drink Pinot as much as for the after taste, as for the taste of the wine itself. What I am looking for in a Pinot Noir is a mineraly taste, that is nice a clean on the tongue. But afterwards, I am looking for a nice aftertaste. This is commonly a rich dark chocolate aftertaste. I will drink a bad Pinot, if it leaves a good aftertaste, because the aftertaste is lasts much longer than the actual taste.
Second, Pinot Noir provides an excellent purple tongue. There is nothing like purple toothpaste to remind you have a good bottle of wine.
The Ramspeck. This bottle of wine needed to breath, and is definitely not a bottle to drink alone. By that, the bottle should be started with a meal, not a wine to be sipped during a relaxing evening. Last night, the bottle paired nicely with a gluten veal marsala that I made. The wine lacked an appealing aroma when opened, did not develop one during the course of the evening, but was enjoyable during the meal. I do not remember the pleasant aftertaste last night immediately after opening. The wine didn’t seem to develop further after being opened and poured, but no one had a second glass after the initial opening.
Tonight, the day old wine did have a good aftertaste, but not one particularly strong of any flavor. The aroma didn’t develop any further, nor did the actual taste of the wine.
This bottle was $13.99 at Goody Goody. I have had better bottles for a lower price, so I would not recommend this wine a table wine, or even a second bottle wine.
